For each EPF account holder, nomination is an extremely important step. In the event of the account holder's untimely death, the benefits of their PF contribution, interest, EDLI, and pension will be transferred to the nominee. Members of the EPF can amend or modify the nomination online after it is completed. Form 2, which the employer would submit to the EPFO, was initially used to change a nomination. The procedure has now been streamlined by the EPFO, and members can use the EPF members portal to modify or add new nominees.

What is the Process for EPFO Nominee Update Online
The procedure for adding an e-nomination is the same as that for updating the EPF nominee online. The current nomination will be superseded when a new one is added to EPF. Therefore, a member must use the e-nomination process to add both his spouse's and his child's details if he has previously entered his spouse as the candidate. Since the husband has already been registered as a nominee, if he adds merely his child, the child will be the nominee and not the spouse as well. This is due to the fact that the new inclusion of the kid candidate will supersede the existing spouse nominee.
Therefore, in order to preserve both individuals as nominees, each time a member wishes to add a nominee, they must provide the new nominee's details together with the old nominee's. A member does not have to remove the previous nomination if they wish to modify the nominee or amend any information about the current nominee. He or she can finish the procedure by directly adding the new nominee's details or updating the existing nominee's details. The previous nomination is invalid, and the EPFO will take into account the newly added nominee or the revised information of the current nominee. The previous nomination cannot be changed or removed by a member. When a new nomination is added, the previous nomination details will no longer be applicable.

Definition of Family as Per EPF Norms
The Employee Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, includes the following persons in the definition of family:
EPF Male Member
Wife
Children (married/unmarried)
Dependent parents
Deceased son’ widow or children
EPF Female Member
Husband
Children
Dependent parent of the husband
Her dependent parents
Deceased son’s wife or children
Nominees may be dependent parents if the account holder is single and has a family. If the account holder is single and has no children, nominees may be anyone, regardless of their relationship to the account holder.
EPF Nomination Rules
For the transfer of money following a member's death, EPF nomination is required for every member.
A member may designate multiple nominees and specify the percentage of funds allocated to each. Only family members may be nominated by a person who has family. A nominee is deemed invalid if they are not a member of the family. Family members include parents, children, and spouses.
A member must submit a new nomination after getting married and changing their profile's status to married because all nominations submitted before marriage will be void.
The member may nominate anyone if they are single. Nonetheless, the nomination ought to be given to the family members if the member has a spouse and children. A family member should serve as the minor's guardian if they are a nominee.
The nominees will get the EPF amount upon the member's passing. The specified proportion will determine the payment.
The EPF fund will be divided evenly among family members in the absence of a nomination.
Conclusion
Nominations for EPF are frequently required of the account holder. If not, the family members can argue over who should get what. A nomination for an EPF fund can be made or updated online with ease by an EPF member. A member does not need to visit the EPF office or obtain employer consent in order to complete the nomination. However, only when the UAN is connected to Aadhaar may a member make or amend an EPF nomination online.
