Correcting your PAN Card: How to Update the PAN Card Online?

Introduction

Taxpayers must associate all financial transactions with their PAN card. Banks and financial institutions must link accounts with PAN to effectively monitor credit and debit transactions. Moreover, the PAN card serves as a valid proof of identity and address for various purposes.

The PAN card contains vital identification details, including name, photo, date of birth, signature, gender, father’s name, and address. In the event of inaccuracies, swift action is imperative for PAN Card Correction. Individuals must promptly undertake the necessary measures to rectify any discrepancies on their PAN card.

To facilitate Indian citizens' access to government services, online websites are available. You can use the portals to request edits or changes. You can also avail of these services offline. However, the online mode is always hassle-free and fast.

In this blog, we will give you complete details to update PAN details online and offline to ensure you always maintain the correct PAN card.

Details Required for PAN Card Correction

PAN contains several details, and knowing which one you can update online or offline is essential. While you try to ensure that all the details are present on the PAN card application correctly, errors are unavoidable. If you find out that some information on your PAN card is printed wrong, you can request a correction.

When you relocate to another address, you must request an address change in PAN. At all times, your PAN card details must be current. This will ensure you don't miss out on essential communication from the income tax authorities. The following details can be corrected on your PAN card:

  • Name

  • Date of birth

  • Photograph

  • Signature

  • Father’s name

  • Gender

  • Aadhaar

  • Address

Note: It is pertinent to remember that, w.e.f. 1 August 2022, the ITR should be verified within 30 days of filing.

The type of documents needed for PAN card correction depends on which detail you want to change or update. You can upload these documents when you apply to update PAN services online. If you choose the offline channel, you can submit photocopies of the required documents.

It is crucial to remember that only one PAN card is allowed per individual. If, for some reason, you are issued another PAN card, take measures to cancel one immediately. As per Section 27B of the Income Tax Act, 1961, a penalty of Rs. 10,000 will be imposed for individuals having more than one PAN.
